Weezer - The Good Life (acoustic)
I think my favorite Weezer songs are the ones it sounds like Rivers wrote on the side of his bed instead of in the studio. This song is simultaneously incredibly catchy and almost embarrassingly silly (“shakin’ booty” and the jazz guitar solo?), which is what makes it great. Bonus points for the band member who looks like he’d rather be folding laundry and for the host getting the song completely wrong.
Phish - Waste
I don’t care how you feel about Phish. I’m not even sure I like Phish. But this song is a great piece of pop songwriting with an awesome jam. You can’t hate this.
Britt Daniel (Spoon) - Advance Cassette Acoustic
Holy crap. This simultaneously makes me want to go play music for 4 weeks straight and/or quit playing music forever. Fantastic.
Ryan Adams - Oh My Sweet Carolina
This song has always been one of my favorites of all time. This soundcheck version (with the band learning the song the night of!) is the sweetest, most intimate I’ve heard. Plus Adams’ wife, Mandy Moore, joins him to sing some gorgeous backup vocals. I hope someday something this beautiful crawls out of my skull.
